It’s been four years since we said goodbye to the magical world of Harry Potter, but the first trailer for ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is here to remind fans that magic and the impossible are all around us — as long as you know where to look.
The plot is laid out in one of the only pieces of dialogue in the clip: “Yesterday, a wizard entered New York with a case — a case full of magical creatures. And unfortunately some have escaped.” That wizard would be writer Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), who the film follows 70 years before Harry Potter would read his textbook at Hogwarts. In the teaser, he opens his case “just a smidge” but clearly that doesn’t tell the whole story. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
The movie is directed by David Yates — who directed the final four Harry Potter movies — marks the screenwriting debut of Potter creator J.K. Rowling and is scheduled for release Nov. 18, 2016.
